The Bachelor of Arts degree program at SNL is defined by fifty statements of competence. Taken together these statements describe the characteristics of a liberally educated adult prepared to engage in learning as a lifelong pursuit. In order to graduate, a student must demonstrate all fifty competencies.

Each student works with a faculty mentor and a professional advisor to determine competencies already mastered and to plan a program for learning the remaining competencies. Students may fulfill competencies in a variety of ways, including demonstrating learning from previous work/school/community/personal experience, doing coursework in SNL or other accredited colleges, and undertaking independent learning projects.

The DePaul degree you will attain through SNL is a Bachelor of Arts, with a focus of study you can individually determine based on your professional and personal goals.

SNL courses are offered can be taken completely online and each course lasts for eleven weeks. Students in the Chicago Metro area can take classes online as well as on campus. Classes are small and interactive, with professors experienced in teaching adults and responsive to their interests and varied learning styles. Students generally complete the program in an average of two to three years, going to school part-time and at their own pace.

The degree is earned by satisfying 50 requirements through transfer courses, learning from experience, and SNL courses.

Requirements are divided into three areas:

I. Lifelong Learning Area (12 requirements)
II. Liberal Learning Area (26 requirements)
III. Focus Area (12 requirements)
